A paradox.

Why is it when you put a language analysis exercise in front of a year 12 class and tell them they have an hour to silently write an essay on it the noise of talking is constant; yet when you give in and tell them that it’ll be ok to work with a partner if they want to that the room becomes deathly quiet?

(Three more year 12 essays to go. Sadly, my students are just as idiotic as everyone else’s…)

I asked my yr 10 about this strange phenomenon and she claims if you have a heap of work by yourself, you will talk to the rest of the class and procrastinate. whereas if you have a partner, you share the load, discuss what it is you are doing and get on with it!!! hmmmm

I can only point to the natural perversity of the young.
