I guess he asked for it…

David2 and I were driving along Nepean highway when he got pulled over by a motorcycle cop.

He was driving without a seatbelt. He drove away with a $237 fine and the loss of 3 demerit points. (Learner drivers only have 5 points.) He was gutted, but I have to admit that I was torn between feeling sorry for him and knowing that it was totally his own stupid fault. He has a nasty habit of getting into the car and not automatically putting his belt on and I’m constantly reminding him.

I then felt very sorry for me when I realised that because he’d quit his job at the local fruit shop a week or so ago it was I who would be footing the bill until he scraped the money together to pay me back.

*sigh*

  1. We are going through the learner driver bit here too. What a pain in the behind the whole process is and DD1 is itching to get her P’s as she is 18 next week. I don’t have fines to pay for her – just all the fuel that she is using getting her hours up. Hopefully you DS learnt a lesson – the expensive way.

  2. I got a looney here too…. opps I mean learner, she tried to tell me that she is going driving on sunday in my car, I told her she had to do something with me first. so then said her dad would take her out… in my car. hmmm i dont think so!

  3. I wish I could show him some pics from some accidents I have attended. The one of the young fella who is dead (hardly a scratch on his car) because the impact flung him out of the car and then the car ended up on him. The one of the young kid now permanently injured from a low speed impact, the head injury has caused permanent brain damage – only happened cause of no seatbelt.

  4. Ahhh, but which is going to stick in his mind longer – quickly paying the fine out of his own money then filing it under F for Forget or having the debt to you hanging over his head until he pays you back ? 😉

  5. Hopefully it is a lesson learned. If so, it may be the best $237 he ever spends.

I also can’t believe anyone can hop into a car and not automatically put a seat belt on.

  6. I thought he went to a good school! Didn’t his Science teacher tell him about momentum of objects through space? ie. the car stops but the human continues at the same speed until the windscreen or road breaks the momentum.
