Skinflint Sunday: Stop typing and get out into the garden!

Mornings on a Sunday are pretty relaxed around here. It’s nearly 10AM and Tom21 is the only child up and about. Molly and Bertie have eaten breakfast and are now enjoying a well-deserved nap. Today stretches out before me – so many possibilities.

Speaking of so many possibilities: the cherry tree is coming to life again. The first year it was in the ground, it was decimated by pear slug. Last year Blogless Sandy gave me some copper tape to wrap around the trunk as an experiment and it worked. Only a few leaves were affected. Time to inspect the trunk and to see if I need to put a fresh layer on.

As I was coming back into the house, I snapped this photo of the parsley under the lemon tree. This is the parsley that is descended from seeds brought from Italy in the 1930’s. We have parsley in just about everything.

The daikon radishes are getting bigger and bigger. Who knows where it will end?

Thermomix recipe: Apple Crumble She has other apple dessert recipes at the end of this post.

It’s good to see your garden coming to life. Have you tried growing chard? We grew chard (bright lights) for the first time this year, and it’s just delicious and can be grown most of the year. The leaves are creamy like spinach, but not as watery when cooked, and the brightly coloured stalks (reds, yellows and white) can be cooked separately, although mine have so far ended up in the chook pot. Happy garden planning.
