Good news and bad news.

The good news is that The Other Blog has a post that was accepted in a competition. It’s like a tennis tournament… 2 blog posts get pitted against each other, people vote and the winner goes through into the next round.

I was stoked to be accepted into it. However…

I looked to see who I was pitted against. ONLY one of the most famous personal finance blogs in the world…

I was really hoping that my post would be read. Seriously. Just read. By people. My fear is that some people will look at who I’m against, say. “Oh, she’s fantastic!” and that’ll be it.

Make no mistake. She IS fantastic. She has a huge blog, a new podcast that I’ve started listening to and she and her husband (no kids) recently retired in their early 30’s. I first heard her speak on a podcast last month and I was really taken by her philosophy on life.

She’ll win the game. No doubt.

I don’t want it to be a landslide. I want to think that people have read my post as well as hers before making a decision. Could you please take 5 minutes and zip across to the site and vote? I want you to read Tanja’s post as well as my own. After all, I’m proud of what I wrote and the seeds that I hope I’ve sown and I’m sure that she’s proud of her post too.

Cheers. Here’s the link:

I feel a bit embarrassed to be asking. Like I said on the Simple Savings site… I feel like it’s a David and Goliath match and I don’t know how to use a slingshot.

Thanks again.

Thanks SO much everyone! We won!!!!!!

I honestly thought that the numbers would be around the other way. What a terrific way to end the holidays.

I’ll let you know when the post is in the next round of judging, but it won’t be for a while. Round 1 has a lot of entrants to get to.

Thanks again, everyone. I really appreciate the support.

I enjoyed your contribution and although I listened to the other one you have my vote.
    Well done.

I’ll have to be honest and say I’m not going to vote for either post. I’m gobsmacked at the fact that neither you or the other poster think it’s necessary to prepare for the coming energy decline, not to mention climate change. To be honest, I thought/hoped when you said you were selling the house in Bentleigh, that you’d put the money into a small acreage somewhere outside the city (yes, I know you still have to work) and put all your spare time and finance into building a self-sufficient permaculture property for you and the boys and their future families, for when the going gets really tough and that will be well within your and their lifetime. Sorry, I said I was going to be honest! I can only say I think you write better than she does, and if that’s what I’m supposed to be voting for, then OK, I’ll go back and vote for you! 🙂

      Nope, vote for your values.
Or not. Will it make a difference if I tell you that I’m going to be landscaping the backyard and installing 6 wicking beds? I haven’t forgotten about energy decline… that’s part of the reason I moved here, right by the train line (it’ll take a lot before they stop the trains running) and where I’m within walking and biking distance of pretty much everything.
I learned so much in the previous house… I’m not going to let that knowledge go to waste!

Gosh foodnstuff but this is a strange reply to a straight forward post. We’ve been asked to vote (only If we choose to) on one topic and you’ve asked why a different topic wasn’t included!? That seems unnecessarily critical about someone’s life choices/blog topics. It’s like asking somebody serving chocolate cake where the broccoli is. Just bizarre. Keep up the great work Frogdancer. You are an inspiration to many and I look forward to further peaks at the slices of your life you choose to share with us.

*peek not peak (bloody auto correct)

      • Frogdancer says:

It seems that you’re like me and can’t stand to send a speeling nistake in a text or comment! 😛

      • foodnstuff says:

Elle, I didn’t ask why a different topic wasn’t included, I merely made some comments about Frogdancer’s new lifestyle choices. And I did vote for her in the end. Her piece was far more interesting and I liked the personal touch and the family photo. She knows me anyway and would expect a comment like that 🙂

Nice piece Froggy, I thought your opponent was a bit on the long winded side or maybe it was just me. I voted for you of course and am guessing you are stoked by the current numbers. I also had a bit of a browse through the new blog and found it very interesting and entertaining. But I have always enjoyed your blog. Good luck going forward let us know when the next round is up for the read and the vote
    Cheers Kate

  4. Frogdancer says:

Honestly Kate, I’m a bit in shock at the voting. I honestly thought it would be hands down running the other way. I’m still not counting my chickens, but wow. Imagine if I got into the next round…????

  5. Peta Hills says:

Voted, and at the moment you are ahead!

  6. Urspo says:

I missed the drama but I wish congratulations !
